Harm resulting from geniuine cases of Fabricated or Induced illness (FII)

A recent (May 2025) research paper by Professors Andy Bilson and Alessandro Talia involved a comprehensive review of Serious Case Reviews (SCRs) in England from 2010 to 2021.  It found no supporting evidence for previously claimed high rates of death or long-term disability arising out of genuine cases of FII.  The research concludes that the real harm resulting from the current focus on FII is to the large numbers of families who are wrongly accused.
